I have a recipe that calls for a quart of ice cream. Would a quart be about 1/2 of a half gallon if ice cream?

    yep -- a quart of ice-cream is the same as 1/4 of a gallon -- or, 1/2 of a 1/2 gallon.

4 quarts equal 1 gallon. So yes, 1/2 of a 1/2 gallon would do.

A quart of ice cream is equivalent to 2 pints, or 4 cups.
