The show was outstanding. I enjoy the scientific insight into the techniques.
I noticed some flaws but is anything flawless?
I feel they could have gotten more in depth with the differences in the arts. Karate punch vs. Kung Fu punch. Or bo's made from different material and used in different manners. Either way I enjoyed watching it the way it was.
Ultimate style? I do not believe there is one. Someone said MMA. I hear that alot. And I agree with proper training in a well balanced mix can serve a person well. However, the argument of generalist vs. specialist arises. Would you rather do one thing very very well, so well that you make it universal. Or would you like to train in something that is general and incorporates several different philosophies. I feel the draw back to MMA is that a student never gets to focus on one style of fighting. (Grapple or strike, hard or soft, defense or evade.)
Likewise it can be said for a pure style that it is "tracks", a striker must strike and a grappler must grapple. But I do not feel this is the case, most traditional styles incorporate a mix of different older styles.
Also, I feel the manner of training and the teachers or more important than the actual style. After all, one has the choice of taking karate at a traditional dojo or some Mcdojo (which I often see at malls). Quality of training far outweighs style.

The show just gages how powerful and explosive some of the various fight techniques can be. I think its good for those trying to choose what style to go into because it helps people pick a style that's best suited for their personality.
For example,
I had a friend one time that was into swords and stuff like that and he wasn't a nut or anything its just what his personality was. After seeing the fight science show i now know how powerful some of them sword techniques can be. Also, I now have a better understanding as to their origin, which would help in suggesting to my friend, if I still knew him, that he go into one of the japanese martial art styles.
From what I seen there is no ultimate they all have stregthens and weaknesses. However, respective of all the other styles taekwondo did hold its own, it was in the top two in nearly every category they were measuring in. I dont think we can say that for the other styles being demostrated.

I don't think you can actually say what is the ultimate martial art. Those who try to compare, or compete with other arts, truly don't understand the arts. Studying any form of martial arts, is not just a physical journey, but a mental and spiritual art. I have studied Muay Thai for 6 years, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for 5, and was raised studying Kung Fu, several foms, but would never say one is better than the other, different, but not better. Each has something to offer physically, mentally and spiritualy, its what you get out of it that matters.

I'm goint to say MMA is the ultimate martial art. Any combination not thought of yet is it, however Brazilian Jui jitsui is where it is at when compared to other pretty arts. Jet li can hop around and is fast, but the second you did get him on the ground he would be at an extreme disadvantage as most eastern arts do not study nearly as much on the ground as the South Americans do (JUDO is good at getting you there, and has some good submissions but not nearly as lethal on the ground as jui)

I saw one person wrote MMA is the best martial art.Well it means MIXED martial arts..sooo in my opinion the Milletich fighting system is the best.MFS has three UFC belts right now and they are pretty dominate.Pat Milletich put together a fighting system that just plain out works and in Matt Hughes' case dominates the competition. If I had to choose ONE straight up style it would be ju-jitsu and preferably Gracie Ju-Jitsu.

Jeet Kun Do "Way of the intercepting fist" - Created by Bruce Lee
Bruce Lee's martial arts was created by him.
Why is it ultimate? because the type of martial arts looks at the most obvious poit that is exposed and you damage it.
or attack however you want to put it. have a look at some bruce lee movies, he goes for the weakest, nearst point and manipulates it

That show was interesting but it was only psuedo science. If they were really scientific, they would have made sure all the practitioners were of equal size, weight, on and on and on.....
