Computer and laptop on same phone line, it is possible?
We have a computer and a laptop and I tend to use the computer more. Is there a way we can hook up the computer and the laptop to the same phone line so both can be used at the same time? Please explain in basic terms! I'm not a computer genius :) Thanks!!
We're using broadband. Can an adapter be used to plug both the laptop and computer at the same time? I'll look into the remote card, etc. later.

you get a wireless router for the desktop pc then you connect the wireless router to the pc this way conncet the ethernet cable to the router and the other end to the ethernet card on the back of the desktop pc then you take the the other cable and put it in the back of the router make dsl then you conncet the other end to the phone line box by a spliter then you put your phone cable in that box then you install the router drivers on to the desktop pc then your see a network icon in the taskbar by the pc time right click that then click on enable
then you need to get in the router home lage and click on the wireles lan icon
and you set up a network id for the laptop
and a security wpa key not a wep key dont use that one use wpa key
then you put a wireless usb adapter on the laptop you install the network drivers on the laptop for the wireless usb
then you click on the network icon in the taskbar by the time on the laptop right click on it go to properties then you click on view wireless networks then you click on advanced tab you put in the network id and security key that u set up on the router home back then you click apply & ok then you click on view wireless network's your see your network id click on that then click on conncet
your be better off if you get you (isp)server to help you set all that up

I'm assuming you are using Dial-up access by your question.
When a computer tries to get something from the internet it checks to see if you are already connected before initiating a call. So try the following:
Log in as you normally do with the computer. Then plug the modem (phone) line from the laptop into another phone extension. Since your computer has already started the call, the laptop would act as though it were picking up an extension and should be able to work online too. Just remember that dial-up is slow and having both online would slow down your response time the same as if you were trying to do twice as much on the computer.
Try it. If it doesn't work you haven't lost anything.

Yes, there is a way. First, you should buy a single wall jack so that both your computer and laptop will be on the same telephone line. Then, buy a D-LINK DSS-5+ Desktop 5-Port Ethernet Switch. You do this by inserting one end of the phone jack in the single wall circuit and inserting the other end in the Ethernet Switch. Next, you insert one end of the internal modem phone jack in the modem of your computer and inserting the other end into one of the ports of your Ethernet Switch. Now, insert one end of the Ethernet phone jack in the other modem jack of your computer, insert the telephone jack in the Ethernet Switch, and insert the laptop modem jack in the Ethernet Switch as well. Most importantly, DO NOT FORGET TO PLUG IN YOUR ETHERNET SWITCH. That is how it is possible to put your computer and laptop will be on the same phone line.

Yes, its easy. All you have to do is connect a wireless remote to your desktop and a wireless remote card to your laptop. Once the remote in installed on the desktop, the laptop will see it.

Both machines can be connected to the same phone line.
But only one machine can use the line at a time.

all you have to do is get a wireless router and you can use both at the same time without any loss of speed to either system
