Idea's for my son's 1st Birthday Party?

I agree with the other posters. The age of 1 is not really a time to throw a big party. Invite maybe some relatives that the child likes and some friends if they have made any yet. But keep it small. Go with a character theme that the child may enjoy like dora or something. One thing my daughter enjoyed that a lot of the local grocery stores offer is her own small cake. Alot of the local grocery stores will offer a free small cake for the one year old so they can pretty much dive into it and you can enjoy a regular cake for everyone else. Or even do cupcakes if you are on a budget. Basically you can just let them have fun.

Depends on what he likes. You can go with a carnival theme. If you do a carnival make sure kids aren't afraid of clowns. You can have little obstacle courses outside or in with furniture and blanket tents. You can set up a 2x4 and they can balance on it. Have balloons everywhere. Get a clown picture and pin the nose on him with tape not pins. A pinata is always fun, if you can't buy one decorate a paper bag. Learn how to make balloon animals with a book and have someone do it for you dressed as a clown (teenager is great). Hiring teenagers if you don't have a lot of family is a great way to watch the kids. Make sure there is a person to take videos or pictures. Polaroids of the child is a good favor with some candy. Have circus music on a cd. Tell the kids to dress in bright colors that don't match or dance outfits if little girls are coming. Have fun colored sherbert instead of ice cream. Have Fun!

The best birthday party we ever had was with my son's 1st birthday party. We got a huge sheet cake with lots of Blues Clues stuff. After the candles were blown out, we let the kids help themselves to the cake, using their hands only, it was a really huge mess to clean up, but the kids had a great time. Whatever you do, take lots of pictures. Good luck and have fun.

Since his birthday is in October, check and see if there is a pumpkin patch in your area...there is a farm by my house and they do birthday parties...they have a pavilion where we ate and had cake and presents and then all the older kids went on a hayride, had their face painted, picked a pumpkin, made a scarecrow, and did the corn maze.

If you buy a big cake at a Super Walmart, they will throw in the little first birthday cake for free.

Keep it simple. Your son won't have any idea what this is all about, and may get upset or afraid. The party will be for the adults and family member's benefit any way. So give him a favorite food, a couple of new toys, and make your favorite kind of cake.

Have a party at a park, have a baby pool party, I think that is an entertainment for a 1 year old, they arent going to know what a clown is or anything of that sort, think simple at such a young age. Maybe take him to a petting ranch/farm or something like that on a nice fall day. Think simple, save your money for bigger parties later on when he knows whats going on.

Have a bubble clown... lots of arts and crafts like string paintings and finger paintings,,, stuff they can take home and their parents can keep. give the parents disposable cameras and let everyone take pics. set up a website where pics can be shared. focus on your child's developmental stage and play off what fascinates a one year old. color and texture are big things at that age. I wouldnt focus too much on a theme because your child wont get it. Insist that parents stay with their kids and have crafts that they can do together. Leave the tv off and play fun music that the kids can dance to. get hula hoops and slinkys and just let the fun take its course. Sidewalk chalk is good too... then take pics of the art... i agree i did a big bash for my daughter and she had no idea what was going on, but if he has a favorite tv show eg. the wiggles etc, i party sells all those themes. my daughter is three....1st year was a wiggles party, 2nd year was dora, and third was a pirate party, with hats eye patches, goid treasure, pirate ship cake, etc.

pirates and princesses is a good theme for little ones as they have no idea what is going on

i wouldn't worry about entertainment just take a few toys down they wouldn't appreciate anything else at 1

A tradition in our family is to bake a small cake just for the child. They will wear more than they eat, though, so ditch the fancy outfit.
