No, you don't need a passport if you are going this year. You[re suppose to have one in 2007 but they are thinking about extending it to 2008. All you need is an original birth certificate (a copy of it won't do unless it is a copy from where you were born, hospital or state). You also need a photo ID which has to be a government (or school) issued one. The above is all based on you being a US citizen. The problem is not going to these places, but it is coming back into the US. Its easy to sneak across the Mexican border than it is by doing it legally on a cruise ship. Thats our wonderful government for you. You can verify this by going to the tourism boards of each island and it will state that since you are in transient, you don't need a passport. They don't check the cruise ships manifest (list of passengers), nor do they ask you for identification when you are on their island.

The word is that you don't need a passport to travel to the Caribbean or Mexico until 2007. Make sue you have your birth certificate and picture ID. The cruise ship will also issue a picture ID that you have to swipe to get off and on the boat. P.S. Have a great time. Just loved Carnival cruise we went on two years ago.

What are the new passport requirements?
Effective December 31, 2006, the U.S. Government will require that all of our guests, including U.S. citizens, be in possession of a valid passport when traveling on any Carnival cruise. Foreign nationals should contact their respective governments to obtain further details. For more information or to get a passport application, visit www.travel.state.gov. Or, contact Passport Services at www.passportservices.com/carnival for step-by-step instructions, passport applications, call center support, and discounted rates. Need your passport right away? Passport Services offers 24-hour processing.
All guests must present the required documentation at embarkation. Guests without the required documentation will be denied boarding and no refund will be issued. Please understand that Carnival will strictly enforce this requirement to be in compliance with this important U.S. Government mandate.
Please check back on our web site for future updates.

Depends on when you're going. As of January, 2007, yes, you will need one. Until then, no, you don't need a passport, but I'd recommend it for a cruise this year too. It's just safer to have it when you're out of the country.

you will either need a passport or a certified copy of your birth certificate. I did this route last year.
