The International Astronomical Union votes to redefine the term "planet", demoting Pluto (pictured) to the status of a "dwarf planet", and leaving the solar system with eight planets.

It is a "dwarf planet."
But it isn't "demoted." Why does everyone say that?
Is there a military-like rank of celestial bodies?
Pluto's feelings aren't hurt by the so-called demotion. It is just a classification that is more consistent with the other celestial bodies like it.

Moons orbit planets, so Pluto is most definitely not a moon. It is now being called a "dwarf planet."

It's definitely not a moon, and never was.
It's up to you whether or not you will accept the new definition of 'planet' devised by self appointed language authorities wearing robes and white wigs.
You could join the revolt against such pedantic scientific snobbery and continue to call it a planet in spite like so many have decided to do.
