Is The Religion of Peace really peaceful?

This is from the Koran:

"Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Messenger have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection (Surah 009.029)."

Does that sound peaceful to you?

Update:

Also, Al Bukhari records Mohammed as saying: "I have been ordered to fight with the people till they say, 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah'."

Should we allow those people to dictate if we should worship and what we will worship at gunpoint?

The most important sentence that the Author of this thread put to us was the last one.

"Should we allow those people to dictate if we should worship and what we will worship at gunpoint?"

The Islamist extremist that are at the root of our problems today no more follow the Quran than MishMash can correctly use the scriptures he/she did from the Bible in this thread. I'd be interested to know what version of the Bible you are taking your verses from MishMash. It certainly isn't the King James Version and this is no game.

Anyone who has taken time to study the Bible knows that you can not take one verse from the scripture and base an opinion on that one verse. You need to look at the proceeding verses and following verses to get the true meaning of what is trying to be conveyed to the reader.

MishMash, your first example Matthew 7:19 is speaking of "false prophets". Men who intentionally pervert the Word of God while preaching to others. It is these men who will be cast into the fire. The same, I am sure as the religious leaders for Islam. If they pervert the word of Allah it is not looked upon favorably.

As for your second example, Matthew 10 14-15. It is Jesus talking to his disciples. He is telling them to "go out" and spread the word to all that the Kingdom of Heaven was at hand. He told them to search out the worthy (or in other words the believers) and honor them. The part you are referring to is if a disciple came upon a house that did not "receive them kindly" in other words scourge them and turn them in to the local councils and kings. He tells his disciples "depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet." AND... "Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city." In other words, on the day of judgement if they STILL turn away from the Word of God then "It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city."

I could go through each verse you chose MishMash to relay your viewpoint and show you how you misrepresented each and every one of them.

As for using verses from the Old Testament, yes, the Old Testament uses some pretty harsh language. The Old Testament should be used as a kind of history book to show how religion evolved. Any Christian can tell you that the "Old Law" was "put away" when Jesus Christ came to this earth and died on the cross for our sins. So, when you quote Exodus, Numbers and Deuteronomy you aren't representing the Christian religion. The Old Testament and the New Testament is like comparing apples to oranges. You knew that though didn't you.

MishMash, there is one verse in the Bible I have for you to read..

    It is Revelation 22:19

There are extremists in all religions. Not one religious sect in the world is immune. The Islamist extremists that the Author of this thread is speaking of desire one of two options for the rest of us.. They believe we should follow their religious beliefs or they want us dead. I support the Author in that we need to truly contemplate that verse at the top of this thread. The Islamist today that are threatening us take that verse literally. Anyone here that tries to deny that is either completely naive or supportive of those extremists.

  • Those who fail to bear "good fruit" will be "hewn down, and cast into the fire." Matthew 7:19

Cities that neither "receive" the disciples nor "hear" their words will be destroyed by God. It will be worse for them than for Sodom and Gomorrah. And you know what God supposedly did to those poor folks (see Gen.19:24). Matthew 10:14-15

Homosexuals (those "without natural affection") and their supporters (those "that have pleasure in them") are "worthy of death." Romans 1:31-32

We are predestined by God to go to either heaven or hell. None of our thoughts, words, or actions can affect the final outcome. Ephesians 1:4-5, 11

God decides to kill Moses because his son had not yet been circumcised. Exodus 4:24-26

Miriam and Aaron (Moses' brother and sister) criticize Moses for marrying an Ethiopian woman and thus breaking the law of God. But God makes it clear that his rules don't apply to his favorites, and he strikes Miriam with leprosy. Notice that only Miriam is punished, though both she and Aaron complained. Numbers12:1, 9-10

    This game is fun...

The Israelites find a man picking up sticks on the sabbath. God commands them to kill him by throwing rocks at him. Numbers 15:32-36

All nations shall be terrorized by the followers of Yahweh. Deuteronomy 2:25

If your brother, son, daughter, wife, or friend tries to get you to worship another god, "thou shalt surely kill him, thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death." Deuteronomy 13:6-10

Currently, Islam has two main attributes: prideful violence and shameless cowardice.

One sect of Islam thinks in their pride that they have the right to kill anyone who does not agree with them: these are the prideful violent types.

The "rest" of Islam is too fearful and corrupt in spirit to speak out strongly against these violent types and condemn them from within their own religion. These are the shameless cowardly types.

I hear there are three guys in Philadelphia, though, that make really good falafel.

There are parts of the Bible that are equally crazy. I think that most religions are crazy, Islam being no exception. However, for the most part, it preaches peace between various religions and not forceful conversion.
