Do you know how I can find a sponsor or advertiser for my website?
Hi, I have a web site www.tips-on-bet.com and I wonder if anybody knows who I can find a sponsor or an advertiser who would like to have an ad on my site. We don't have a lot of traffic yet as we started not long ago. Do you have any solutions? Thanks, Dan

My advice is to build your traffic and reputation in the industry. You have to remember that advertisers sponsor or advertise on a website because they think that the website can provide them with users interested in their own products/services. But if you have very little traffic then, it can mean that their investment may prove to be a waste, with getting any results too costly. Advertising is all about return on investment.
Nonetheless, there are several ways you can earn money from advertising:
1. Join an advertising network. Advertising networks are organizations that aggregate Web sites that offer advertising space, and sell banner ads (and other advertising options) across them. Traffic requirement is often a minimum of 5,000 monthly impressions, although many do not accept sites hosted by free page services.
Burst Media http://www.burstmedia.com/ (requires minimum of 5,000 impressions per month)
Fastclick (ValueClick). http://www.fastclick.com/

2. Participate in contextual advertising networks. Contextual advertising are text ads delivered based on the content of the web page using an automated system.

Yahoo! Publishing Network (currently in beta and available to US publishers only) http://publisher.yahoo.com/

3. Sell advertising for your site directly. This is admittedly a more difficult route for a small business site wanting to earn advertising revenues. But hey, as they say: "no pain, no gain!"
In our experience, here are what advertisers are looking for when choosing sites to use for their advertising:
- Who are the visitors = It is important for advertisers to know whether your site's visitors are what they are after. More than just traffic numbers, they want to know whether they can get targeted traffic from your website. They want to know whether the customers they want are visiting your site.
- Traffic levels = Advertisers will often ask you how many visitors/pageviews/uniques you get in a month. Some will go to Alexa.com to check your traffic standing (not accurate, but many see it as a good guide). If you are selling banners through CPM rates for example, they will normally ask you how long it will take you to show the 20,000 ad impressions they ordered (or how many they ordered).
- Your rates = how comparable your rates are with others.
- Customer service = advertisers want QUICK support from sites they want to advertise on. You need to be quick to respond to their emails, whether inquiring for your media kit or asking your ad rates or checking the performance of their ad campaigns. The key to understand is that advertisers will always look for metrics to help them gauge the ROI they can get from advertising in your website. If they don't think your site will not give them a good ROI, they will not advertise or renew their advertising on your site
- Monitor campaign performance = advertisers want to see how their campaigns are doing on your site, so they can make decisions fairly quickly whether to change the creative, pause the campaign or increase the campaign. You need to be able to provide them with real time statistics. We use phpadsnew and it is just great (and FREE!).

I would try to grow my site by joining an affiliate site. You offer to put an affiliate link on your site and when people click thru your site, then you get paid. There are thousands of companies that offer affiliate programs, like the GAP, Expedia, and even Yahoo. It is free to join and you get to choose who you want to work with. LinkShare is one of the bigger companies that helps you manage all of your affiliates and your click thru rates. Some programs give you credits for anything one of your readers buys from their site for up to 180 days provided that they clicked thru your website. Some guys earn 60 bucks a month, others like gawker.com earn in the 6 figures range from a mix of advertisers and affiliates. It is easy to get started and cost you nothing. Pick affiliate who you think match what your site content is about.
