Real Madrid is according to FIFA the best team of the century and they are very know World Wide...... America, Europe, and now a little more in Asia because of Beckham popularity.
Manchester United is a great team but it's fan are mostly from English speaking countries and Europe, some in Asia but they don´t have that much fans in America.

With the signing of Beckham, I think Real Madrid has surpassed Man. U to become the most popular team in the past three years.

Manchester United
because all of there games are televised but real madrid might have better talent but is less known

Actually beaker the word soccer originated in England in the early 1900's. So it's not an American word it's an English one. I believe you are now gutted.
I'll go with United but I prefer Real Madrid. I'd say it's quite close but United have a much bigger following in North America than Real Madrid have.

manchester united are the worlds most widely supported club. thats cuz they actually aim to be a financial entity. they spend so much money on advertising and marketing . real madrid used david beckham (from manchester) to the same effect. to get fans .
