You might try to place something over the area where she is scratching the paper off. This is usually a way to tell you she is upset when you leave her at a non-regular time. Such as for work. We went so far as to get our dog a piece of carpet and put it on our wall. Like a cat scratching post for the wall even though she is a dog.

I have a puppy and she goes after the trashcan / paper of any kind (newspaper, tissues, etc) when we leave to go out - so we've done a couple of different things (I am assuming she doesn't do it when you're around). One thing that will definitly work is crating her while you are out. Invest in a crate. Make it a nice place for her. Feed her in it and give her treats in it. She will soon learn to feel safe and like it in there.

One word: Kennel.
