I wasn't all that pleased with the episode - I thought it was a disappointing end to what, in the end, proved to be a disappointing season.

I have no issue with the bad guy winning and riding off into the sunset - effectively what happened. In fact, I think it is a nice twist, and I liked that.

I could see that killing Jen would be something Al would do to further (or salvage) his own interests - but I thought it was a huge jump to have Seth and Charlie (nevermind Sol) accept the murder of an innocent to keep peace in the camp - even if it was presented to them as a fait accompli by Al. There is too much of a discontinuity to character (even in the flawed characters of Charlie and Seth) - and if you are going to have a character-driven drama, you just can't do that.

My whole impression of this season was that Milch let his stream-of-consciousness approach to writing and storytelling get the better of him. He got so caught up in the process, that he lost sight of product. There was a lot of potential - I think much of it didn't get realized.
