I'm going to London in October on vacation (10 days). What places should I visit?

Also, how accessible are other parts of Europe, (France, Italy, Greece), and how can I travel there during my vacation. Is the South of France warm in October? Only anwer if you live in Europe, or have visited in the fall. Thank you.

If you're to see London properly in ten days, you won't have time to see much on the continent, unless you could book early to get a good deal on the Eurostar to Paris. You could also take a ferry to northern France or the Netherlands.

There are nice days trips possible from London, like Cambridge, Brighton - Britain is an island so it's good to see the coast - or a country house (though many close in October). In October parliament will be sitting and you can sit in the gallery of the House of Lords; there is a shorter queue than for the Commons, and the red and gold chamber is splendid! See some of the parks; Sunday mornings in Hyde Park you can go and see people getting up to give speeches on anything and everything, and feel free to heckle. St Paul's is magnificent (if you don't mind going to church, attending a service there will save you money on admission), and there are many theatres, at least one of which is bound to be showing a play or musical you would like. Join the queue at the tkts booth in Leicester Square, and get the best tickets available at a discount.

Europe is very accessible since most of it is E.U. now. Look online at Ryan Air (www.ryanair.com), just note with them that your luggage allowance is very low. But it's pretty cheap to fly to Paris or even Italy especially since you're travelling in the off season. As far as warmth in the south of France, it depends on where you live now. Coming from Miami, no, not warm. Coming from up north, then not so bad. I know travelling on Ryanair to Paris is cheaper then taking the chunnel (for two adults). Because it's starting to get colder, many places close for the winter, so check online before you go to major destinations. You may also want to consider going north to Scotland or west to Ireland.

As for London, it's a great city! My family and I have been there 4 or 5 times (we live in Germany) in the past year and we always do something different. You must see the Tower of London and take the tour. Instead of the Red Bus, go to a tube station and buy a travel card and use the tube and busses to get around. I think it's more fun to surround myself with locals than other tourists. Go to Hamley's which is a 7 floor toy store on Oxford Street. Even without kids it's a blast, and is definitely NOT a Toys R Us! The London Eye is great, as long as there's good visibility. Get there first thing and there's no line. Go to the TKTS booth in Trafalgar Square to get discount tickets to see a better than Broadway show and feed the crazy birds. For meals, ask the locals wherever you happen to be. They know the best places. As strange as it may sound, England has the strangest flavored potato chips (lamb with mint sauce, roast chicken, ketchup). Go into Boots (a drugstore) and buy every kind just to try 'em. They also make an interesting gift to take home.

You'll have a great time no matter where you go as long as you try to embrace the culture, and not fight against it or compare it to "home". Good luck!

Get on one of the double decker city bus tours. Besides the fact that they're double decker, you can get on and off (I think the one we did was called Red Bus or something like that) all you want. You MUST see the Tower of London and Westminster Abby, absolutely must. Also, St. Paul's Cathedral is supposed to be amazing, it was closed for renovation when I was there though. Also, ask around and get a local to give you directions to flea market type places, some of those places have amazing stuff for darn good prices.
