Oxygen sensor does it even have one? LOL 84 Pontiac 6000?
Okay here is my car's problem:It often doesn't start unless I push in the gas(no biggie) but it will die unless it warms up for awhile (not too bad a prob) but here's the REAL problem it sometimes does not want to accelerate I mean it takes a long while to get up to 30mph & I have to pump the peddle to get it to do that or it will(may-has b4) die on me. Usually it is fine after my speed is up. Then sometimes when I have to stop at a light & try to take off it starts with the acceleration problem again. Sometimes after having stops though it takes off fine. I know it isn't fuel injection because it doesn't have that. I know it isn't air filter or spark plug either (new). I doubt this would be connected at all anyways but the car has a new starter, alternator & battery too. I remember similar issues YEARS back & it was the Oxygen sensor-someone told me that it can't be that. I dunno. Please let me know what you think is wrong with my car!!! PLEASE help me!!! Thanks.
The Engine is a 2.8 V6. & no I haven't had anything with the catalytic convertor tested.
The car does sometimes die when I'm trying to accelerate-but 99.9% ONLY right after it was 1st started not if I drove a mile already. It does SEEM like it will die othertimes when taking off from a stop, but has only done so ONCE in 2 months.

Have you had your catalytic converter tested for excessive back pressure

You did not mention what engine you have. There is a 2.8 and a 3.1. I have had trouble with the crankshaft position sensor. It is mounted between the engine and the firewall; although on the engine. I looked it up, you do not have a 3.1 for that year. there is a 2.5engine series ID-VIN of R, then a 2.8 with the VIN letter X and a 2.8 with the Vin letter Z. This is the eighth number of you VIN #. The sensor is almost down to the oilpan. You can also take your car to Auto Zone and they will put it on the computer reader for you for free. On these engines this is one of the things that has caused me the most problems and they do react like the symtoms you mentioned.

Yes it has an oxygen sensor. No that is not the problem. Assuming the engine does not miss when you are accelerating, just no power, I would check the spark advance. Sounds like it is sticking in the advanced setting.

If its not fuel injected it doesent have an oxygen sensor . it sounds to me you have a problem with a dirty fuel filter , if thats not it than its just a tired old engine.

its probably not the sensor i would start with the fuel filter

it could be the fuel filter or the auto choke
