What's the "point" of voting on answers in Answers?

The thumbs up and thumbs down are to create awareness of the quality of an answer/question. When you thumbs a question/answer this will show the community how helpful and good the question/answer is.

The thumbs up/down is a trial to see how users work with this feature, the Y! Answers Team it's not sure if they will keep it or bring back points for rating :)

voting and rating are two different things. you cant rate an answer until your at level 2. when you reach level two you by giving a thumbs up or down will help the answer know how good or bad their answer or question was.

the more you vote and answer questions, the quicker you move up the levels. good answers might get the best answer and you get awarded 10 points.

its good to vote and answer questions as much as your daily limit lets you.

Thumbs up and thumbs down seems good, but actual voting for the best answer seems like a crapshoot when you only get one vote and can't see which answers are leading.

I think it's to encourage the person who asked the question to come back and see what others thought, and to see if that can sway them to pick a best answer rather than letting it go to a vote.

You get a point for voting. The ratings is just something you do if you enjoy reading various answers...

What is the point of Answers at all? It is fun for me. I am glad when I can help. I enjoy reading other people's questions and answers. I guess there is really no point to any of it.

To help the presumed stupid questioner pick a best answer. We would not want to claim we actually have brains. (hmmm am I in a mood today? lol)

That's rating. It's pointless now because there is no points involved qanymore.
