Where are the toilets on the starship Enterprise?
In many episodes of "Star Trek" and "Next Generation" characters are seen walking through decks and past doorways. NOT ONE OF THEM has a symbol or sign on it to indicate toilets. Where do the crews go to answer a call of nature?

It was an accident(no pun intended) that started out in The first Trek series.Restrooms were accidentally left out of the schematics. As a running joke, bathrooms are never shown on Enterprise schematics. . This joke is referenced in Star Trek: First Contact when Zefram Cochrane asks Geordi La Forge "...don't you people from the 24th century ever pee?" The only confirmed appearance of a toilet aboard the Enterprise was in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. It was stated in a Trek novel ( not considered a reliable source by the strictest of Trek fans) that the toilets all had very low powered phasers in them to eliminate the waste material.
Also, the joker in me can't answer this question without retelling this old joke.
Q. Why is the Starship Enterprise like toilet paper?
A. They both circle Uranus looking for Klingons.

The toilets are there. You just don't see them.
On the schematics for the Galaxy class (next generation) there are toilets behind the bridge, and also through the back of Picards ready room.
They aren't called the *toilet*. They're called the *head* in accordance with American naval parlance.
The recovered organic matter from the toilets is broken down to a molecular level, filtered and sanitised, then re-cycled as food and other organic items in the food replicators.
Sounds gross doesn't it? I certainly wouldn't want to eat on a Federation Starship, that's for sure.

during the thirtieth anniversary of star trek. Jonathan Frakes was in the enterprise d' engineering section. He was by the large schematic of the ship. He said that for those of the viewers that wanted to know that here was the toilets. He pointed to a room on the schematic on the disk section just at the top fore of the dorsal section.

Do you REALLY have no concept of the basics of Thermodynamics? This isn't even Einstein, it's basic Newton. First Law. (sigh) OK, when the captain orders a "Full stop" - all that stuff would carry on forward and splat against the viewscreen. The ship's crew would be functionally blind as they couldn't see the bad guys. The crew have to "hold it in" until they get to a Starbase. R&R does not stand for "Rest & Recreation", it's "Relax and Release". Don't they teach the kids ANYTHING in skool these days? "Fascinating" "What would that be, Spock?" "Well, Jim, the word 'skool' passes the spell-checker" "RED ALERT - BATTLE STATIONS (intracom) We have passed into a parallel dimension, anything could happen and probably will"

And even if there are toilets how would you go in those uniforms they wear. They look like they are like wet suites. Presumably not very easy to get on and off.
Maybe in the future everyone gets sorted at birth so they don't need to go very often?
Source(s): I've been on the bridge! :$ OK pretty geeky but I'm not even that embarrased, I got to sit in the captain's chair!! :-D - 1 decade ago
Come on, every trekkie know that they have transporter technology to beam the waste directly from their colons and bladders into the food replicator biomass storage containers.

ha ha ha ha good one so true. They left out that part on the script about it being out moded :). They beat cancer, then they beat the old fashioned need to GO. It was just an unknown bit of trivia till now thanks to you! It was found they never need to talk about it just beam it up/transport it out at the mere thought of it, or running water. No need for signs or space taking commodes, just more closet space for Klingon's!

They don't have bathrooms - their food is strictly soluble substance that can be absorbed by the small intestines. They don't need to go to the loo. So they have probably lost function of their excretory system.
