Was Shoaib Akhtar caught red handed ball tampering?

Shoab is clearly seen to be running his thumb nail over the ball on the way back to his mark during the 3rd ODI. Was he or wasn't he tampering with the ball? Try to give an unbiased opinion ( ie if you are Pakistani dont say he wasn't out of National pride)

Update:

Keep in mind that there are different ways to effect the ball's performance. You can scratch the surface to effect movement through the air or pick the seam up in the hope of getting movement off the pitch.

The camera actually caught him doing "something" to the ball. The correct procedure should have been for him to show the umpire what he wanted to.If he had done so,then all those "nasty" racial allegations would not have reared their ugly head again.Unfortunately these allegations seem to follow the pakistani team.Which is a pity because the rest of the team and poor old inzy seem to be carrying the can for one individuals shortcomings.

  • Nookey's response is exactly what the asker was politely asking to not bring to this forum - pure unadulterated subjective rubbish, get a life Nookey, your team are a bunch of cheats, they learnt from Malik and they learnt well.

As for the post suggesting that tampering does not occur to the seam of the ball, but only the red surface - bollocks. If you are not versed in a subject then dont comment.

Shoaib was busted tampering, via camera (that is why we have a 3rd umpire folks - read the rules). Picking at the ball in any way 'alters' the ball - end of story. Shining the ball is allowed and that is delineated in the rules.

Pakistan cricket needs re-education because they cannot see what they are doing wrong. Another case of "Im right and the rest of the world is wrong". Cheats and sore losers.

The game is played under the supervision of Umpires. Third Umpire and Match Referee and England Players in Pavillion are closely watching the game. If Mr. Shoaib Aktar was tampering the ball, even if escaped the attention of Umpires in the field, the same should have been noticed by the Third Umpire or the Match Referee. Even if the same escaped their attention also, it could not have escaped the attention of English Players and if he had acted anything contrary to the rule, they would have definitely lodged complaint. Since none of these happened, I feel it is not fair to blame him.

This shows the nature of cricket in the world at the moment and it is disguisting.

Shoiab Akhtar is clearly breaking the rules of cricket, watch the video, He is rubbing his thumb along the ball and mabye even his nail.

You are not allowed to do this.

Do i think he was tampering the ball to improve performance, of course he wasn't, he was removing dirt, but you are also not allowed to do that. That is the umpires job.

If the ICC are sticking by the ball tampering law, they should enforce it.

Was he cheating? no, but he was breaking the rules of cricket. (if you follow that..)

Fu*k the damn hell of that national pride sh*t...

What you really mean to say you wanna make a new controversy?

Thats where the problem lies, everyone looks at us like cheaters, when even if we cleans the ball with our trouser's sleeve that is 'tampering' and if rahul dravid tampers the ball with a 'pill' ???

Its amazing a prejucdiced and biased person asking for unbaised answers. Anyway Mike Proctor's verdict would have satisfied you, may be. I said may be because I know you are one of self righteous fools.
