I have MS so yes I am pretty much aware of most neurological diseases. Yes, I have seen the progression of the disease and it is sad. There is no cure and the treatments that they have don't really seem to help. I am only 41 years old. This is one of those area where stem cell research could really help. I actually moved from the US to Asia in part to avail of any treatments that might be available here but not yet FDA approved. I have tried a lot of different medicines but nothing seems to slow it down. The treatment for these diseases are the same. The attempt to totally suppress the immune system and hope the new cells will grow back correctly. The problem is when you kill all the T cells your body is defenseless. However if we had some healthy stem cells it would provide the new cells a blueprint to copy. I am glad to see that someone else is interested in this sort of topic.

I have a friend who has ALS (aka Lou Gehrig's disease) and I have seen the toll it has taken on him. It has now even affected his speech. I know a lot of effort is going in to find the cure and hopefully they will find it quickly.

Ignore the smart alecks...they won't be so smug with their dumb remarks when they come down with something....they'll be kissing your feet if you can offer them a crumb of hope!
It is terrible. Like every other terrible disease it's all about supporting the organizations that try to find a cure.

If you want to cure it, don't vote Republican. The most promising chances lie with stem cell research, which folks like George Bush is adamantly against.

Haven't seen it, but had a former coworker that has it running in his family. And it's hitting his family young, in their 40's. Very sad disease.
