Remeron, brand name for mirtazapine. Comes in tabs 15mg, 30mg & 45mg. Also in oral disintegrating tabs 15mg, 30mg & 46mg. Inital dose for Adults: 15mg at bedtime. Maintenance dosage ranges from 15 to 45ng daily. Dosages should be adjusted at 1 week intervals.

The action is thought to be caused by enhancement of central nonadrenergic and serotonergic activity (sorry for the technical talk).

Common adverse effects: somnolence, increased appetite. dry mouth, constipation, weight gain.

Less common: dizziness, abnormal dreams & thinking, confusion, urinary frequency, back pain, muscle pain, dyspnea (difficulty breathing), flulike syndrome.

    Life-threatening: suicidal behavior.

Don't use with alcohol. Lower dosages tend to be more sedating than higher dosages. If dizzy or sleepy, don't drive. Don't cut (split) tablets. Don't take other drugs without MD knowledge & approval. Watch for suicidal tendencies. Report sore throat, fever, sore tongue & any other signs of infection to MD.

    Hope this is enough.
