MS Word and Excel very slow in opening files. Any solution?
I am using Office 2003 Pro on a new top-of-the-line laptop with WinXP Pro 2nd Ed. Suddenly I noticed that if I open a document/sheet by double clicking the file it will pause for a long time before opening but when I open first the application and use File/Open then it will open in a flash. Other applications are just fine. Checked for possible spyware, malware, virus or anything else but cannot find anything. Surfed the net for 3 weeks now and cannot find anything that somehow solve the issue.
I already did delete whatever I can delete but nothing works.

I have this exact same issue. Clearing the Temp folder did not help. There really wasn't much in there.

What you need is to clear the temporary files that both application leave after each instance.
Go to
-My Computer
-C:
-Documents and Settings
-Now search here for a folder that have your name and open it
-Search for "Local settings" and open it
-(If you could not find it, type it in Address bar in the window above after tyhe "\" and press enter
-Now you should see here "Temp" folder, Open it
-Delete all files here, they are temporary and will not harm you.
-It is ok of not all files can be deleted, they are still opened
-Make a restart and try again
-Mark me as best because I know this problem, several years ago.
