Is low motivation a sign that one is studying the wrong thing or in the wrong line of work for him or her?

Update:

I'm particularly interested in answers that "look beyond lazy" and try to analyze the behaviour for what it might really mean. Thanks to those who've taken the time to do so.

Low motivation can come from lots of sources. Frustration that things are difficult and that one won't do well is one reason. A person can have low motivation due to depression from another reason, as they things will remain the same and will just continue forever that there is no end to studying. A lot of things come together to make one realize something is not the right line of work.

Not always. Sometime low motivation can be a symptom of a problem outside of work, and may even be tied to depression. I suggest consulting a counselor. It has certainly helped me- I was going to give up on being a teacher after a shaking experience in my student teaching. I've now been teaching for five years!!!
