Develop a resume -- get someone to check it for you.

Send out resume's and applications to every welding job within 150 miles of your home. Check the newspapers daily classified sections on-line.

Sign up for unemployment and get them to show you their computerized job lists and apply for those jobs too.

Check the newspapers and your city, county and state government web sites for GOVERNMENT jobs requiring your skills.

Have family and relatives check around for you also. This is an economic emergency, there's no time to play games and be proud here.

You need to be sending out 10 to 20 resumes or applications EVERY WEEK to get a job --that's 2 to 4 every workday. Looking for work is harder than working. Get busy.

Hi friend, don't worry. I was in a similar situation about 3 yrs ago. I resigned from a job (a senior manager position) after 22 yrs after being promised of a project management position (which I was'nt really familiar with) in another company. Anyway there was quite a bit of uncertainity and the new position did'nt come thru' for about 3 months and those were the most frightening 3 months (so far) in my life. But my family was supportive and I prayed hard for the new job. So don't be upset. You may not be holding the right qualification or an expert in any particular field but you have got plenty of technical job experience. Pray hard, keep trying and be patient. You'll find a right job soon. In the meantime, you could take up a course or attend some training to sharpen your skills in a couple of additional fields which may come useful and handy in your attempts to get a new job.

My deepest sympathies go to you sir. It sounds like you have many usable skills. Welding pays well in most states, esp. those within a union. I'm sure you can find similar work, but unfortunately it may take you a few years to get to where you were before your loss. Your diabetes is of no concern. Anyone denying you a job based on that can and will be held liable under the Americans With Disabilities Act. I pity the fool who denies you a job because of this. Go to your local unemployment office, file as you should, and start hunting. There are good jobs out there, and I know with a little perseverance you will find one. Good luck and God bless!

As a welder, you shouldn't have any problem getting a job. I know that the Harley Davidson Plant in York, Pa. are in need of welders all the time and the pay is around $20.00 an hour. I also heard that Caterpillar is offering a $50,000.00 sign on bonus to welders. You shouldn't have any problem! Good Luck
