this site isn't free, but it's only 9.95 for a people search and you won't have to waste time with sites that claim to be free, but want you to pay to actually see the results:

Try your state website. Now Tennessee has passed a law where you can get a criminal background on anybody for 29.00. It takes a few days,but will end your hunting. See if your state offers this.
