Playing music CDs on my laptop?
Some CDs that I purchase will not play on my PC. Are they encoded by the manufacturer not to, or is there a setting that I can access that will alow me to play them? Any tips appreciated!

Any music CD can be played on your laptop. I would make sure that the CD-ROM lens is clean and then I would download the latest version of Windows Media Player. I use Winamp for all other audio/video files except when playing music CD's. Actually, when you first put the CD in, it should bring up an autorun dialog box with a list of options. Click "Play in Windows Media Player". It should work.

Try opening up Windows Media player then putting the disc in. Sometimes this works. If it does click "rip CD"(which means putting the songs onto your comp), if not then SOL.
Also, some CDs are encoded to run on your computer that shows a menu screen. This will show up automaticly, but if you have an old comp you may not be able to access this.

If they are Sony music Cd's then yes they might have the Rootkit protection on them

yeah ive had the same problem with my linkin park cd meteoria. Im going to keep an eye on this one good question!
