Cancer Theory?

When I was in 4th grade, I came up with this theory while doing a research project.

When cells have completed their "jobs" in the body, they sort of kill themselves in a way. Well, here's my theory. There's this stuff called antigen, which is a main part of the cancer. When something interrupts the cells job in the body (i.e. Smoking, STD's, UV Rays) it damages a lot of the cells and a greater number of them die a lot faster. When these cells die, they morph into antigen. The excessive amount of antigen in the body causes cancer.

So what do you think? Am I insane or do I have something here?

Update:

To so_classy- Well, I suppose that stress could be one of the things that affect the cells. Kind of like the smoking and stuff.

Well, yes and no. An antigen is a specific viral or bacterial message that gets into your system...the bodies natural defense is to make antibodies to fight off this invader.

Now if you want to say that the cells in the body die and then they are thought of by the body as an antigen and there fore the body sends antibodies to distroy this invader this would work...it is very similar to what you said.

But in cancer, it is actually the natural cells which over grow.....they are not something else they are the actual cells of the area effected. Much like Leukemia...the cells are produced but in such a number as to be premature so they don't fight infections...see?

Much like Sickle-Thalysimia...the red blood cells are sycled but they also are missing put of the enzime that carries the o2 in the cell it's self....why because they are produced prematurely so they are not fully made. They are not useless just disfuctional to one degree or another.

All of this begins in the bone marrow....one might think that a bone marrow transplant might straighten things out but because the genetic code is to mutate the genes at whatever stage..eventually the marrow will reproduce the cancerous cells becuase it is programed to do so.

To cure cancer you have to be able to change the genetic code......you are well on your way. Good luck

Not insane at all. Sure would never know anything if you weren't asking questions and trying to reason. Cancer is the uncontrolled multiplication of cells.

Cells that should have died didn't and keep multiplying when not needed. Then there is a lot more to it than that so keep asking and thinking.

Cells have DNA inside them. When the DNA is damaged by factors such as UV rays or other carcinogens, the cell cycle will be stopped by a tumour suppressor protein known as p53. p53 will then send signals to other proteins for to repair the DNA, or destroy the cell if the damage is too high.

HOwever, if the p53 is mutated by factors such as chemicals, radiation or viruses, this p53 cannot function well to stop cells with damaged DNA from further replication. Therefore the cell with the "wrong DNA" will continue its cell cycle and divide uncontrollably into many "wrong" cells, thus forming tumours and cancers.

You are not insane and you have an interest in learning about this and that is good just try a little harder .And study the mechanism of cancer you will see that is allot more complicated and that there is not an easy answer is like fitting an alien that has the key to the universe .And there are many ways to fight back but none of then are relay effective

please read up books on cancer etiology and molecular biology - you are on the right track but you need focussing. Some one would just say you picked up this thing from a medical text book. if you are still interested in cancer, go through medical school. There are still many tumors in the body that dont have specific cause - you could help in these areas - but as a career you have a long way to go. :-)

The antigen-antibody work on cancer and its treatment has gone far beyond your theory.

To be honest I have no clue. YTou may have a point but who really knows> Everyday the list of things that causes cancer grows.

    Umm interesting...

I just heard that cancer comes from emotional uresolved issues at a sub concious level ( ??)

This is, old problems, old hates, etc.

Eventually all these things allocate in some parts of your body and "create" cancer, cells that somehow attack you.
