Can anyone tell me what the word "TiVo" stands for?
Nobody answer with "Its a recording device...." I know what it is. I need to know what the acronym means. No one seems to know.
Why do people insist on giving me information on what TiVo does. I specifically said not to tell me this. I don't want a fcking history lesson. I want to know what the letters stand for. That's it.
Looks like Erinca is gonna get best answer, even though the question will never be resolved. Though it is finished.

Does the word TiVo stand for anything?
From gleffer, "It doesn't mean anything. Lots of possible meanings have been posted, but TiVo Inc. officially says that it has no meaning. "
Interesting Trivia: Before TiVo was called TiVo, it was called Teleworld.
Other Interesting Trivia: Another name TiVo was considering for TiVo was "Bongo."

TiVo (pronounced tee-voh, IPA: /tiː.voʊ/) is a popular brand of digital video recorder (DVR) in the United States. It is a consumer video device which allows users to capture television programming to internal hard disk storage for later viewing (sometimes called "time shifting").
The device was created by TiVo, Inc. NASDAQ: TIVO, a company started by veterans of Silicon Graphics and Time Warner's Full Service Network digital video system. The founders were Mike Ramsay and Jim Barton. They originally thought they would create a home network device but later came up with the idea to record digitized video on a hard disk. In fact, they were so well thought of they were able to get venture capital without a clear concept in mind. The original company name was Teleworld.
-- What is TiVo
TiVo is a Personal Video Recorder (PVR). Or as Michael Powell once famously said, "TiVo is God's machine." TiVo records television programs to an internal hard drive rather than to tape. No more fumbling for a blank tape to record your favorite shows. Instead, you select the show and tell it to record all new episodes. You didn't know there was an episode of your favorite show Friday instead of its usual Wednesday slow. That's ok, TiVo knows.
Even when not recording something for you, TiVo keeps a live buffer of 30 minutes so you can pause live TV to answer the door or take a phone call. The instant replay button jumps backwards 8 seconds giving you a chance to rehear missed dialog or you can rewind to see that winning touchdown pass again without waiting for the network guys to run a replay.

R.A.dio D.etection A.nd R.anging and it actually detected the Japaneese planes attacking Pearl Harbor but was of such poor quality that they mistook the entire Japaneese attack for a small routine American patrol! It was on a lower frequency and had lower definition the ability to separate individual smaller targets! For that matter the displays were not the same as they were as todays they amounted to an oscilloscope with a single line with a blip on the left being the transmitter and to the right "bumps" were the targets they did not show up on a screen like dots! Mechanical pointers actually showed the direction the antenna was aiming driven by syncronous motors one meter pointed at the azmuth and the other the direction! The round indicator was not introduced until we were into the war! APS

TiVo can also refer to that corporation, as well as to the TiVo service, which is the network that the recorder unit itself communicates with. TiVo, Inc. made its IPO (Initial Public Offering) on September 30, 1999.

TV is shorten from TeleVision.
The word is derived from mixed Latin and Greek roots, meaning "far seeing" (Greek τῆλε "tele," meaning far, and Latin "visus," meaning seeing).
