What can Linux do better than Windows XP?

I've been using Ubuntu for a week now and aside from virus immunity and cost I can't see any advantages over Windows XP. Someone please tell me what it does that makes it better? I don't want myths or "it can do almost everything XP can do". I want to know a real advantage to it.

There are no real advantages for home users. Linux works well because of its capabilities in performance when deployed as a part of a clustered server infrastructure.

It's a better server, bugs tend to be fixed faster than on Windows, and there are fewer security worries. Most Linux distributions come with easy-to-install databases, mail servers, web servers, etc. And, it's all free!

If you're going to run Linux at home, Ubuntu's a very good choice!

But, there's much less application software for Linux than for Windows XP. And, many of the applications you'll find are more appropriate for folks who like to tinker with the software-- not pure users who just want to get a job done.

Better multi tasking and memory management. Try running several applications at once, with one or more requiring a fair amount of processing power while you actively use another. You'll find that things run smoother, with little to none of the frequent pauses you see in Windows.

It's true that Linux is better for server environments. If you're looking for more user-friendly advantages and features, you really should be using Mac OS X.

It's cheaper, you can load the OS and software packages for free. It's more stable and more configurable if you are a true geek.

Fewer virus problems. It can be a server or a PC or both

It's more complicated and a completely different platform than windows, so if you are not used to it then there is prob no advantage to you.
