How do I make prop ground beef for the stage?
I am working on a show and I need to make something that looks like raw ground beef. It can't be something that can perish and it needs to look real enough from about 4 feet away. I would rather not use foam or plaster. Any ideas from those prop masters out there?
Thanks so much!

If it doesn't need to move (ie be stirred or anything), how about glue dyed red then mixed with fine brown gravel, like you would use in an aquarium? Sounds odd, I know, but should give the right colour and lumpiness.

maybe try the yarn thing but instead of using red yarn use brown yarn and a red paste type of thing (try a mixture of water and flour (lots of flour) and red and brown food coloring (only a drop or two of each). that way it can be moved and still have the non perishable quality.
good luck!

Her idea with the red yarn is good, but what's better is possibly dark pink modeling clay on a plate or whatever you need.

Try tofu or meat substitutes that are sold in vegetarian stores or health food stores.

hm im not sure if this will work, but maybe shaved reddish candle wax would look not so bad.
