Have you tried updating the firmware? Go to the iRiver website and see if a Firmware upgrade is available. That usually solves the problem. If not, use the MSConfig method (send me a msg if you dont know what that is).

My IRiver (40GB) died. Consider yourself lucky!
(if you are feeling luckier than me, connect the USB cable and short out the two outer pins).
