Is there any point in rating people's answers and questions on Yahoo Answers?

If your answer is chosen as the best answer, you get one additional point for every thumbs up that you recieved for it!

Also, I read in the blog that the rating system is just a step, in a process to help feature the best questions and answers and to allow users to sort things by rating.

I also try to use it if I see answers that are factually wrong, so as to try and advise the person asking the question which answers are helpful.

I THINK, but I'm not sure, that if the original question asker does not pick a "best answer", they use the voting of the thumbs up to pick the best answer. I really don't know, I hope someone does because I'm curious about this too!!!

So the person who asked the question can decide what the best answer is?

For example, if one question has a thumbs down, they probably would just disregard what that person said, and focus on the ones with thumbs up, etc...

Many people are asking questions. Many people are answering them. Maybe there is an ulterior motive to this "Answers" game. I think it is good to see how and what others think. "Who's Line is it Anyway" uses a useless scoring system. It's just for fun. Enjoy! :) Maybe Yahoo is looking for a very popular host for a newly formatted Talk Show on some major network...

you get points if you have the best ratings. I got ten points that way a couple days ago

i think its more on how people accepts the asnwers sent, and how intellectually people understands such questions and answers. the more people wwho gives thumbs up the more it is acceptable. . . . . . . . . DUh!!!!
