What is the best sounding engine?

For me it would be a toss up between a Rolls Royce Merlin (spitfire) or a 2 cylinder stem locomotive whats your favourite?

The harmonics that are characteristic of the P-51 V-12 Allison and that singing steel 4-blade propeller are unmistakable. Sounds like angels singing and devils crying at the same time. As a brat back in the early 1950s, I would see them fly from a local base. Envy and pride would cloud my vision, but that rumbling siren would fill my ears with music and my heart with a dream: to fly single seat fighters. I did.

350 cu.in. in a chevelle does it for me. So does a packard merlin or rolls royce merlin V-12 in a spitfire or P-51 are so sweet sounding. I also like the F-104 howl that engine gives off sounds like a space fighter.maybe thats why it's called a star fighter.
