It depends on where you live. In my area, the best coverage/strongest signal comes from Verizon. I could have gone with a company that offered me more minutes, but it was worth it to me to have less minutes that I could actually use.

Look into all the major providers in your area. Not just the coverage maps, but ask people you know what phone service they have and what kind of reception they get. Once you know what quality of service each provider offers, then you can compare plans more accurately.

I highly recommend Verizon! They cover the largest area and have the best customer service. As a matter of fact here is the wireless ratings from http://mountainwirleless.com/

    CELLULAR CARRIER RATINGS

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ratings are based on our opinion of how the National wireless carriers perform, and at what price. The better the coverage, or the lower the price, the better the 'score'. We take into account Coverage, Pricing, Roaming Partners, Frequency, Customer Service, and Features. Comments about each carrier's rating are detailed below.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Additional Comments About the Ratings:

ALLTEL is among the best and only suffers from having "average" customer service.

CINGULAR gets lower marks for their poor, or variable, customer service, also, while they have extensive roaming agreements, they suffer from having access only to GSM sites, of which there are fewer than other technologies that include digital and analog sites. In some parts of the country Cingular deserves a better score for on-network coverage, but they suffer in the western half of the country.

NEXTEL gets low marks for their inability to roam on few, if any, other networks.

SPRINT gets a slightly lower rating for coverage due to its strictly PCS (1900 MHz) frequency, however, they make up for it with excellent roaming capabilities.

T-MOBILE gets credit for optimizing their all-PCS (1900 MHz) network better than others, but is penalized for fewer roaming abilities.

#Roaming capabilities have improved recently as T-Mobile has added many new roaming partners. The higher rating applies to users with dual-band (850 MHz-capable) equipment. Notably absent from these agreements is the Cingular network.

VERIZON gets good marks across the board, but a slight hit for being just a little more expensive. Their customer service department actually closes at 11pm (but not if you have a technical problem), but makes up for it with excellent customer service.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I personally wouldn't go anywhere with out The Network behind me! Now I want to know if you are thinking about switching to Verizon because of some iformation you got from me. You can email me. Click under my avatar.

it all depends on how you are going to use it, how much you are going to use it, if you travel in or out of specific calling areas and so much more.

There are plans I know of in Atlanta, that give unlimited calls as long as you stay in thier calling area ( metro atlanta) but you get no service outside of thier area.

Myself I travel several states and use several thousand minutes a month including international calls to Africa, Russia and Europe. I have found Cinglular the best for my usage but you need to really shop around.

This really depends on where in the country you live. to figure out who has the best service in your area do a little research. Go to these two different websites. http://www.cellreception.com/ then go to http://www.deadcellzones.com/ once you've decided which is the best carrier to to this website and review all the phones for that carrier. http://www.phonescoop.com/carriers/ and last but by no means least go to this site to purchase your new phones. http://www.letstalk.com/ I did and got a great deal.

I would like to say cingular, but some hidden fees are the problems. But metro pcs is good, the only bad thing is that they have alot of dropped calls and not much phones, other that its good.
