I did an Internet Search on "Winter Theme Weddings" and found various websites that offered ideas on how to plan a winter theme wedding. I think, the first one is the best for you, because it talks about doing it on a budget, which is what you wanted to do. I even found a website that has clip art, so maybe you can make your own invitations. All the links are below.

My wife and I have been together for 22 years now. We met in 1984 and got engaged in 1985, but we were a little different. We didn't set a particular date. Instead, we set a deadline and we said that we would get married before the end of 1990.

True to our word, we finally got married on December 7, 1990 (D-Day for those who don't know your history). We didn't have a big fancy, expensive wedding. Instead, we used my computer with a dotmatrix printer to make the announcements and print the labels for the envelopes. Then, we went to the Court House and saw the Judge and got married (we had already picked up our rings the previous weekend and only paid $100 each).

After we left the Court House, we went back home and got the announcements and took them to the post office and mailed them. Then, we went to JC Penny, where we got our photo taken and we used a coupon. While we were at the mall we saw a small kitchen plaque that fit us just perfectly so we bought it and it said, "This marriage was made in heaven, but then so is thunder!"

Once we left the mall we went to Olive Garden, where we had a very nice meal and then got a cake.

After dinner we went and saw a community play of Scrooge. When that was over we went to Village Squire (a local pub/resturant), where we had drinks by the fire place. Then, we went back home.

Altogether, I think we spent around $600, when you count the cost of our rings, my wife's dress, our dinner, and ect.

By the way, I was just thinking one decoration you might be able to use would be hanging snow flakes. I'm sure you would be able to pick those up real cheap after Christmas, If you are going the party route.

Honestly, if you're on a tight budget the wedding chapels are the way to go. They have all the decorations and you get a MUCH better price than buying all the stuff yourself. You can still bring your own special touches, so check thru some of their packages, spend the bulk of your budget on that and then add a few personal touches (the favors, etc) out of the rest of your budget. You'll be glad that you didn't spend months upon months trying to make things cheaper and you'll be much more rested for your big event. Good luck! Congratulations!!!!

invite only close family and friends...so a small wedding. Have it so the wedding takes place somewhere where u wont have to rent a restaurant or somewhere expensive. Even a backyard works or the church (i dont think they charge if u have reception there). Um, dont buy the most expensive dress in the entire world, let it be simple and elegant, remember, u make the dress beautiful, not the dress u. Then you can have friends and family make the food or whatever for the party. :) Congrats on the wedding!

Simple can be very elegant. Last year when my middle daughter got married, we rented a very bare but beautiful old hall in a city facility, added some candles and lots of tuille (cheap) and a couple of elegantly simple orchid arrangements. We chose to spend our money on the reception in a favorite restaurant across the street, where we also kept decoration to a minimum and focused on the food and having a relaxed time with our families.

And then there's my older daughter -- they got married by a JP last year with the intention of having a family wedding on their first anniversary. Since it's on Halloween, we're having a celebration in the front yard at my house -- where we have LOTS of trick-or-treaters! We're going to barbeque and have a tombstone cake with plastic skeleton arms around it and the words "till death do us part." And best of all -- everyone's coming in costume! How fun and cheap is that???

The most beautiful wedding I've ever been to was decorated simply with ferns, tull, and white Christmas lights. It was simple, yet elegant. Also, hobby lobby has amazing flowers. They are fake, but no one will be able to tell. My best friend bought some for her wedding and people still smell mine (6 months later).

my mom and i did my wedding. i went to a local arts and crafts store and bought the flowers to use for my arrangements and had a couple family members help put them together. they also have some wedding stuff at the crafts store too. you can get some really nice wedding things at wal-mart too like the guest book and cake toppers, etc. we used pot plants from wal-mart's garden center for some of the greenery. ivy works great too..you can stick it just about anywhere to fill up empty space. also, if you cater it yourself you will save a bundle! make up finger foods like little sandwiches, chips & dip, fruit, cheese balls & crackers, and such as that is a lot cheaper than a caterer. try your local thrift stores for dresses. i actually found my wedding gown at a salvation army for $15!! go to http://www.myspace.com/jessicaodom and view my pics if you'd like to see a pic. of my dress. you wouldn't believe how beautiful a $15 dress could be, so don't second guess the thrift stores! if i can think of anything else i will add it to my answer later.

don't invite too many people

befriend someone who can cater for the wedding

have the wedding in a pretty but cheap venue (e.g: on the beach, in the park etc etc)

don't spend too much on invitation cards

don't splurge on things like flowers and decorations.some of the nicest decorations come out of the simplest things.

the list goes on.

Fake decorations are a waste, usually ugly, and basically landfill fodder. Skip them entirely. Pick a location that doesn't need decorating. Put the money towards aspects of the wedding that really matter.

we'll i was going to say ....have it outside, but unless your in Australia, it'll be COLD outside. Don't go extravagant on the flowers... noone will notice (unless its like a celebrities wedding with thousands and thousands of them) if you have one bouquet or 10. The flowers are expensive, so go easy and don't worry about it.

YOU just said it like it was. BUY out of season. THAts how most people do weddings that are on a shoe string budget.
