Is it okay to mix your own lyrics to a music artists music and produce it?
So say I take a famous artists song, instrumental version, and mix my own lyrics to it, then maybe put it up on a site or something, is this illegal, or do you have to tweak the music a little, just wondering.?

Under the copyright laws of most countries this would be illegal except in the case where previous permission has been granted OR you have paid a sum of money to the other artist for use of his copyright. The only exception to this rule is when{A}copyright has expired{B} it is a traditional track where no one knows who wrote it and even this{B} is shaky because the copyright could be owned by either a publishing house or a corporation

You need to ask permission from the person/corporation who owns the rights to the song.

uh have you ever heard about Vanilla Ice?
In other words, no its wrong to take an artist's music and put your own lyrics onto it without their permission...
Vanilla Ice used David Bowie's "Under Pressure" tracks for his song "Ice Ice Baby" and got sued for doing that
