Any opinions about the coup in Thailand?

I'm in Bangkok now and all is pretty quiet. Aparently the King just threw in with the general that staged the coup...that is probably a good thing.

The coup appears to be the best solution to move the country forward. Despite being elected more than once, Taksin was not considered an honest leader by many. I guess it is not always easy to investigate and impeach the country's leader. This must be corrected, otherwise this circumstance will repeat again and again in the future.

To prevent violence, the King has to show his approval to the Coup's leader even though he is supposed to be neutral. But the King is still obligated to do his best for the country and all the people. Thais are still very loyal to the King. So by doing so, he basically stops potential conflicts and violence regarding the current coup.

Taksin's supporters need to be praised because of their restraints. Nobody wants to be a loser or on the losing side. It is clear though that fighting will not be good for the country and blood is not worth shedding at this situation. Hopefully there will be a fair investigation into the ex-PM's doings to close this current tamultuous chapter.

The outsiders need to realize that the current Coup's leader being Muslim is irrelevant. Thailand is not being taken over by Terrorists or Islamic Extremists. Most Thais are still Buddhists. There are still disturbances and bombings in the South of Thailand by a few islamists. In general, good person can be a leader regardless of their religion, etc. Thais are not paranoid that he is muslim.

We just have to wait and see whether there will be a new PM in 2 weeks.

I absolutely agree to that coup, the prime minister in Thailand was as corrupt as the worst dictator I can think of.

Democracy is a nice ideal, but it doesn't always work. Look at Hungary for example. If politicians lie and cheat like that, what is the value of democracy.

Maybe, we shall see. However, given that the general is Muslim, my concern is that Thailand may eventually become subject to Islamic law.

Don't think Thailand will be under Muslim rulings. Must see what will happen next.
