What happens when a 25 year old life-long vegetarian eats meat?
What happens when a 25 year old life-long vegetarian eats meat? He's been very strict about having no meat whatsoever. No fish, fowl, pork, beef, etc.... He's been strictly vegetation and milk. He just ate a rather sizable portion of meat. Will he get sick? We tried to talk him out of it but he insisted.
Thanks to those who actually answered the question and tried to provide feedback. So far there hasn't been any negative reaction.

He may be OK. He may get a tummy ache. He may get gassy. He may get constipated. If he truly has been strict about what he eats and has never eaten meat before, then his system may not have all the strong enzymes, etc that most people have to aid in digesting meat. All in all though, he'll be OK in the end.
It's actually kinda like introducing a baby to different foods (not that he's a baby!), some do OK and some have discomfort. Unless he chokes on it, a little meat now and then won't kill him!

Won't he spontaneously combust?
Seriously though, humans are actually omnivores, that's why they have round and sharp pointed teeth. We were made to chew just about any type of edible thing.
Mostly vegetarianism is about a belief. It's almost like a religion. My Mom has been a vegetarian for about 30 years. Once, when I was a witch, I placed some ground beef in the little holes in her wheat bread. I was trying to prove a point that she would not know if she ate meat. (Because she said it smelled bad and was so disgusting). She ate the whole sandwich and did not notice. Then I told her what I did....boy was she upset.
Your friend will probably be just fine. You didn't tell us what type of meat he ate. If he ate steak, he might have a hard time "going" the next day.

Nothing happened in our case. My boyfriend who was a strict vegetarian for 20 years just started eating fish 2 month ago. Now he eats any kind of seafood once or twice a week, as healthy as always been, no digestion problem. It'll be fine...

Well, 2 things - either absolutely nothing will happen or he might get sick to his stomach. Meat is a lot harder to digest than veggies/grains. But I think at the worst he'll just suffer from some indigestion. No worries.

It will probably make him sick to his stomach. I stopped eating meat for a time and finally ate some bacon and boy, did I have a stomach problem, if you know what I mean.

I think it's okay for him to eat meat. The real question is "Did you enjoy it? If so, then you should figure out what you like and don't like. He just wanted to try something new.

Well it would be interesting to find out. I know that we were't meant to digest meat, it rots in our stomach's. He may be running to the bathroom alot. One thing is for sure, he just readded a very filthy product into his system....maybe he needs to be reminded of this:

Your question doesn't make sense. There is no such thing as a twenty-five year old meat eating vegetarian.

He will see that meat is delicious and good for your health. Poor guy has been in the dark for 25 years. He'll say good bye to broccolli and hello to filet mignon!

He'll get depressed and regret he lost 25 years of experiencing the awesome taste of meat.
