Who else has heard about the tests on coal to oil (gasoline) by the US military?
Basically this would allow the US to become self sufficient from oil from other countries and could bring the price of gas from $2.24 (or $2.04) a gallon down to $1.00 a gallon. Wouldn't that be great? Don't you think this should also be tested in commercial market now?

Now the big talk is hybrid technology. Sure, it saves gas, but hybrids still run on 100% gasoline...

go down to the Free Audio for hour 2 of 8/17/06. It's an interview with the CEO of JetBlue, who is really keen to make the USA oil independent in the next ten years. This interview explains how.
This is an interview EXACTLY about this issue. It's fascinating.

Right now it is not very practical. Nuclear energy is about the best way to go. You could plug your car in heat and cool your home and do it for next to nothing. Public transportation could run on it like most of Europe.
In answer to your question yes I have researched it. Found it to be cost prohibitive.
