    Chips is actually French Fries!

The only difference is that Chips is the British word and French Fries is the American word.

Chips is what they call french fries in England... thus fish & chips is fish and french fries... chips are also thicker than usual McDonald's fries, more like the kind you can buy at the grocery store... also in England they usually eat their 'chips' with salt and vinager on them instead of ketchup.

There is a difference. The British "Fish and Chips" includes fried fish in a batter and chunks (chips) of fried potatoes. French fries is potatoe cut in long strips and fried. So the difference then is in the shape only.

I do not believe there is difference. Here is what I have been told: The English and Canadians call them chips. We call them french fries. Don't know what the french call them.

First, the above answer is wrong.

    Next..

    No difference really.

"Chips" means french fries in different countries.

(England and Australia to name a few, I believe)

Go to Outback Steakhouse and you can order "Aussie Chips" with your meal if you want (they're french fries)
