Why is it that whenever someone says they have found "contradictions" in Bible, its usually because they read
it with the pressuposition that there are contradicitons in it and almost always take the verses out of context?

They would rather not read it at all!
It is just to attempt to disprove the word of God!
Even when there "contradictions" are disproved to them that still use them!
There is no truth in them!

it is because of pride and arrogance- they take scriptures out of context, pay no attention to the audience that is being spoken to (hence the eye for an eye and turn the other cheek "contradiction" - not a contradiction at all), trying to come at it with a 20th century, english mindset and not bothering to learn the meanings of the Hebrew words. idioms or culture- which would make a huge difference in the comprehension of the scriptures- basically it is a haughty spirit that will cause a person to act like they really have read and studied but actually stopped before the rubber met hte road.
I love the ones that quote shakespeare or misquote something they hear as scripture and use that as their proof of contradiction.
Just keep learning , growing in the faith, speaking the truth and take heart- EVERY knee shall bow and every tongue confess, and if they are right, which we and they know they are not, then it all won't matter in the end anyway- we are either worm food or worshippers and they will never be able to tell us "I told you so"
****SMILE***** and have an absolutely blessed day!

Really?
Did you bother to read any of those contradictions?
I'll grant you that some of them are reaching a bit, but there are plenty that stand out harshly. Like Jesus having two seperate geneologies, or the reason Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem. Or whether or not God's anger lasts forever. Or when and where Jesus first appeard to his desciples after his resurrection. Or how long the Israelites were in captivity. Or perhaps whether or not divorce is permissible. Was Jesus the first to rise from the dead? Are we punished for the sins of others?
How about when was Jesus born? What were his last words? Did Satan enter Judas before or after the last supper? Or at all? Was Jesus silent at his trail, or did he make long-winded speeches? Are people judged by words and deeds or by their beliefs?
The Bible makes different claims for all of the above. One would think that if the book were actually "without error", it wouldn't have such glaring oppositions within its own pages. Yet Christians claim these are not contradictions at all. That is blindness, and I will have none of it.

I read you loud and clear. I checked out all expressed contradictions (i do this becuz often it leads to a hidden truth) and in 25 years have ever found 2 apparent contradictions which have no affect on doctrine message or prescribed behavior. One is a difference in the state of things at that historical time between the the leadership of Joshua and whoever that was after him??? one said the ones to be removed had been totally kicked out, and the other mentions going on to push them back out of the hill country. It is a typical seeing the state of the times differently, with the one trying to honor the accomplishments of a great warrior. People who wish to pick should at least do their reseach. That is of coarse the reason they pick becuz they are unsatisfied with what their half research has given them in whatever area they are looking to fill their void with. Do not be angry with them becuz if they are searching that is better than being complacent in the arms of Satan.

The Bible is a factual time line, if the individual books were to be read in a historical time grid people wouldn't find what they think are contradictions. The books are representations of what went own in truth, from the authors prospective.
Most people do this because it's the only way they can understand what they read because they were taught by religious peers and educators in there lives.

Everyone here on this earth could point to everyone else and say they're taking the verses out of context.

If you truly believe the Bible is the word of God, then you have to accept everything in it - that's everything, contradictions and all. If you are going to conveniently ignore passages in the Bible that contradict one another, then you aren't taking it seriously.
If, on the other hand, you see it as man's interpretation of the word of God, that is another matter.

Yeah, but how can anyone really say what "context" it's supposed to be in? I've see people post pieces that are clearly earlier peoples' logical understanding of things that happen it the world, yet what people BELIEVE it to say is something entirely different and turned magical...

Whenever??? That means ALWAYS, right?
1. Why does Jesus' bloodline date back to David and Salomon, and ends precisely in Joseph (Matthew's Gospel, first Verse), when there is NO BLOOD BOND WHATSOEVER between Joseph and Jesus???
2. Who was Abel's wife? His SISTER??
3. "Thou shalt not kill"?? And the Crusades, the (***)Holy Inquistion and your Bush wars?? What the heck does that mean??
4. Ezekiel 25:17? And your all-loving God smites his enemies, children and innocent women included?
5. the revelations and Apocalypse predict ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that has come to pass since the death of Jesus and up to now.
It's not a question of presuppositions, it's a question of being blinded by faith vs. being logical, which Biblethumpers cannot be.

i understand what you are saying...but they do not read on to the cross reference in the bible...you can not just take part of the bible you have to read it and then look down below and read what the scripture is meaning...and some just make up or get the wrong meaning that what was intended when the bible was wrote....the main thing i believe is that we believe jesus died on the cross for our sins and that we must believe in him and repent of our sins, and be baptized and try to live the word of godd...none of us our perfect but we must strive to live a moral life according to gods wordd...we can not make excuses for living the life of the world..it may seem more fun now but it is a life of fast decay....and i should underline it may seem...i think living a decent moral life and knowing you are living for god and knowing you have a home after death....heaven is my home not this world...
