I had my wisdom teeth out about a month ago and I was in bad pain for 2 full weeks. Make sure you are taking your pain medication how you are supposed to- whatever it says on the bottle - every 4 or 6 hours or whatever. If you wait until you are in bad pain before you take it, it's not going to work like it should.

The only way you can really tell if you have dry socket is by going to the dentist. The symptoms are severe pain and a yucky smell in your mouth. I was convinced I had dry socket too, and it turns out everything was fine - I just had a hard recovery.

Applying moist heat may help. Take a sock and fill it with uncooked rice and tie a knot. Stick it in the microwave for 45 seconds or so until it's hot-ish- but not hot enough to burn you. Get your hands damp and pat them on the warm sock. Lie down and put the sock on your face. Heat should give you some relief. You can also try a hot wet washcloth, but it cools a lot quicker than a rice sock.

I don't think holding a mild salt water solution on the area could hurt..usually aids in healing. Warm anything held on the area should sooth the pain somewhat. Take the pain meds as prescribed...they may not take all the pain away, but should at least take the edge off. And of course get on the phone to the dentist office...someone should be on call for your dentist even if he isn't there. His office should talk to you and possibly prescribe another medication or tell you something else to do for it. They should also make an emergency appt for you. Use the work "emergency" when you call. If all else fails and you really can't take the pain, go to your local emergency room. If no insurance, they will bill you and you can make a payment plan with them later. Best wishes.

when you have dry socket, the meds that they give for wisdom teeth extraction will only serve to take the pain down a notch but will by far not get rid of it the thing they use in your case is pretty close to putting cloves in the socket. the dentist will put in a medicated swab about every 2ND or third day until it heals. you'll get almost immediate relief. Call the office of the dentist you saw even he is not on call someone from his office will be and just tell you are still hurting really bad. I am not sure what they gave you when you had them removed but the strongest thing you can get called in is probably hydrocodone 10 mg.

You need to get some more medication that is more powerful for the pain. The good news is that it will go away after some time passes.

had mine out over the forth of July and i ended up with a dry socket (it is where the blood clot does not form) and yes the Dr should have given you a number to call in case of an emergency. have you called his or her service and seen who is on call.

When you have dry socket your breath will reek horribly and the cotton in it will stink really bad.

You need to take four Advil and use a dictionary.
