Our main forces will remain in enough numbers until the Iraqi military and security forces show that they are handling things pretty well. But I would not expect to ever see us completely out of Iraq. We have never really left any place where we have won a war. We continue to have bases in Korea, Germany, Japan, etc. It is a show of assistance to our new allies that are now a free and democratic form of government. I would expect the same thing (probably in small scale) in Iraq... maybe a small base near the embasy or something along those lines.

As long as the majority of the Iraqi people choose to stand and fight for their freedom and their democratic government, we will stand beside them.

I just wonder what the Dems will do. In Connecticut, we saw the cut'n'run crowd oust Lieberman for his support of the War on Terrorists. For 2008, will they force the candidates to flip-flop on their war votes? Will those who supported the war stand by their convictions? Or will they prostitute themselves to the vocal appeasement wing?

As soon as the Iraqi's can stand on their own , we'll start a gradual withdrawl .

Getting totally out will take time .

Meanwhile , we are ideally positioned to handle problems caused by Iran and Syria .

Even most liberals agree that when you brake something you buy it. So yes we will be in Iraq in some fashion for some time to come.

The next couple of years atleast. The next president will have a choice of finally pulling the troops or, or he/she will think that they can do the job better and send in MORE troops.

No, not by a long shot. We are in there for a long time. As long as Bush is the Pres, then the war will continue.
