What questions do I ask in my first session with a middle schoool child? I am the counseling intern.?

"Ever seen a grown man naked?"

Ask him to tell you about his life, pets, family, relationships with siblings... I have to tell this true story,

There was a 14 yr old kid seeing a therapist at his school for the very first time and the therapist started the session with,

"Well, John, what problems do you want to work on?"

John pondered that for a few seconds and answered,

"I think I would like to work on lowering gas prices."

He was totally serious! Just cracked the therapist up!

Seriously, though, the middle school kids are sometimes hard to get to open up. Be sure to jot down a few open ended questions to get them started. You will be so surprised what they have to teach you!
