"Go to tools, options, un check 'Start Yahoo Messenger when computer starts" - This will work once.
If you have Windows Defender, you can also take it out of your Start Up List by going into the program - explorer - start up programs.
Unfortunately, these will only work until you load up Yahoo again. For some reason Yahoo will put itself back in your start up list every time you load it. Even if you take it off, it will come back on.
The only way that I can think to make this stop is to go to http://www.download.com/ and look for an older version. You will lose some of the nifty new features, but you will have more control over it.
I hate the fact it does this to because it sucks up system resources when you don't need it to, and it forces you to do it.
