Look

Take a look around you

Is it everything you dreamed?

Is it what you always wanted?

Is it even what you need?

Look at your life and how you live it

Did it turn out as you liked?

Or are you a perfect stranger

Living someone else's life?

When you see your reflection in the mirror

Is it who you want to be?

Or is it someone you don't know

Is it someone else you see?

Do you see yourself as others do?

Or do you look inside?

Because if you go by looks alone

Shallowness may be your only guide.

Next time you look into the mirror

Look past everything you see

Look deep inside not just to who you are

But who you want to be.

It's a joke poem. No way will I put up a serious one. Unless you ask....

Reconstructing Heaven (Or...Something Happened on the Way to Heaven)

I always wanted to paint brighter stars--

Better the faded, broken wooden ones.

Somehow the hobby became a bizarre,

Impassioned attempt to construct new suns.

Just as the stars from flawed wood crack in two,

So do the suns crumble in gold splendor.

Reparation made with more paint and glue

Cannot keep suns-that-were-stars together.

For the tragic wood I openly pined;

The adequate design failed to render.

Still I loved it purely with eyes too blind

To see that it would make perfect tinder.

The sun-making business is not mine.

Only beautiful stars by God will shine.

if only i could waste some time

trying hard to make things rhyme

had no housework left to do

spend my time amusing you

if only i never had to cook

lay back down and read my book

never have to go to work again

maybe I'll return to sane

and so the dishes lie unwashed

my hair unbrushed

and had my rush
