How does the Sansa e200 series (e250, e260, e270, e280) MP3p know if using rechargeable or alkaline battery?

Do you have a link to a photo of the Sansa e200 series (e250, e260, e270, e280) battery compartment? Is there a switch? How does the MP3 player know not to try to recharge your alkaline batteries?
