How do you get your computer speakers to work?

I'm trying to get the sound from the speakers to work, but it's not working. When I try to play videos, its just silent. I tried turning up the volume on the computer but it won't let me. So what should I do. And if I need to go on the internet and download the drivers can you please tell me which site to go to to download it. Thankyou, I would greatly appreciate it.

I had a similar problem and i discovered where all the little icons on the blue bar at the bottom i have volume icon and one for my soundcard.Double click the one for the sound card and see if it has a sound test feature. But check your volume icon to see what level the sound is set at.Hope this was of some use to you. any drivers you need should be available from the maker of the sound card i would hope.

just a little question... when trying to listen to music on Windows Media Player, does the writing go red/orange. if yes, do the following:

step 1) go to start, and click on Control Panel,

step 2) click on Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices

step 3) click on Sound and Audio devices

step 4) on the dialog box (pop up box) click on Audio and make sure that the right options are selected, if that don't help fiddle around with the options.

and make sure that the speakers are plugged in...
