What do you know about Bi-Polar Disorderness?

One of my close friends has been diagnosed as Bi-Polar Disordered. What do you know about Bi-polar disorder and also what are the symptoms and the cure is possible? Will she be back to normal or she has to live with it? I will gladly appreciate any info you provide not from a website but an experience maybe or an MD or a RN help would be great. Thanks in advance...

Check out my website and you will see most of what I know about it. I am bipolar.

Bipolar disorder is a life long mood disorder with no cure. It causes sudden unexpected changes in mood. Depression is at one end and mania is at the other. Severe depression is a deep sadness that causes disintrest in usual activities, stress, feelings of wothlessness, and often thoughts of suicide. Severe mania is extreme euphoria. You may act wildly, go on spending sprees, or do things that are dangerous or be extremely happy.

Much research is still needed but most experts believe that bipolar disorder is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. It is also known to run in families leadinfg to a genetic connection. In reality many factors come together to cause this condition. Physical injury to the brain may be a a trigger for onset of the illness in some cases.

BD is most often treated with antidepressants, mood stabilizers or a combination of both. Therapy may be benificial to some patients. In rare cases ECT (Shock Therapy) may help. Some people believe Holistic treatment for this illness is better than the traditional methods. I don't agree with them but there may be something to it. Severe cases my require hospitalization or treatment at a residential facility.

I hope I have answered your question and helped you. Please contact me if you would like. I'll try to answer anything about this.

    Sincerely,

A person with Bipolar has a medical condition, not a mental health condition. Bipolar is caused by an imbalance in the body and can be regulated/controlled with the right prescription medication.

The person has mood swings from very sad and depressed to very happy and overly active. The idea is to find a balance just on the side of happy. Many times the person feels a great deal of internal pressure and becomes angry at the people closest to them.

The illness can be controlled not cured. It will take time for the psychiatrist to find the right combination of medication and dosage.

In the meantime give your friend space when she needs to be alone, listen when she needs to talk, and expect a change of mood from a short period of time to days. Everyone is different.

First of all, bipolar is NOT a form of schizophrenia. Second, bipolar does not cause early death. Third, it is treatable but it does not EVER go away. I have bipolar and a psychology degree. It basically is EXTREME moodiness. During the depressed episodes, suicidal thought and attempts are often common, so strong support is needed to help someone get through each day. During mania, a person feels better than words can describe, needs little to no sleep, often hears or sees things that no one else does, very energetic, fast talking, feels on top of the world, feels overly important to the world. There is no cure but there is good treatment options available. Keep in mind, it takes an average of 2 to 10 years to find a correct treatment that may work, in the meantime be VERY supportive and patient with her. People with untreated bipolar disorder often end up in hospitals or jail or bankrupt. It is very scary to go through but there is treatment. If she gets the right treatment, she will most likely end up BETTER than her old "normal". She has to live with it forever. If you want more from me, let me know. Counseling for those who love her is also highly recommended as it is hard for loved ones too.

Believe me honey you don't need a Psychiatrist or a RN to explain what Bipolar Disorder is ask someone who has it and lives with it everyday of the week twenty four hours a day.

Bipolar Disorder is an illness that gives you extreme mood swings. One minute you will feel eurphoric, on top of the world and nothing can bring you down. Nothing can go wrong. You are on a manic high. You spend money that you don't have and some people spend their money on things like twenty matching ties, or thirty towels. Nothing in this state of mind can go wrong for you everything is great.

Then poof here comes the part that really sucks. That euphoric world that you have been living in goes away. Nothing goes right. You get so depressed that you don't even want to get out of bed. You are lucky if you can even lift your head off of the pillow you are so depressed. Your house never looks clean enough, your clothes never look good enough and you just feel like s***. The world is gonna cave in at any minute. Then if you are one of the lucky ones you get the hallucinations or hear the voices talking to you. You see things that aren't there. People are talking to you telling you what to do or carrying on a conversation with you. That is if you get the Psychotic episodes along with the Bipolar Disorder.

There is no cure for Bipolar Disorder you just have to learn to live with it. Your friend needs to get on a regimen of anti-depressants and maybe an anti-psychotic medication and a mood stabilizer to stabilize her moods so that they don't swing from high to low. The important thing with Bipolar Disorder is that you have to stay on your medications or you will get sick all over again and may need a stay on the Psychiatric unit of a hospital to get her meds stabilized all over again. Please tell her that DO NOT FORGET TO TAKE YOUR MEDS. That is the biggest reason that people get sick again they didn't take their meds. You will start feeling better and when you do don't stop taking your meds or you are sick again. You must stay on your meds no matter how well you feel. I hope that I helped you to better understand what Bipolar Disorder is and how it works and maybe someday they will find a cure to make those of us with it feel better. Until then just stay on the meds.

Bi-Polar is a mental illness that cannot be cured. It can only be treated with medication. Individuals with bi-polar disorder can take drugs known as MAOI's, which are called by their lay term, "Mood stablizers." Usually the mood stablizer evens the person out. However, many individuals with bi-polar disorder like the "highs" they get when their moods are up, but what they don't realize at the time is the consequences of the unavoidable "lows." That's when individuals with bi-polar disorder become difficult to those around them and can even endanger themselves.

Your friend should be fine with medication. If your friend makes excuses for being on medication, as her if she were diabetic would she refuse insulin? If she had high blood pressure would she refuse medication for that as well? It's an illness that she can't control, so she's needs to get the help she needs.

unfortunately there is no cure for bipolar. although the earlier it is diagnosed the better. symptoms vary, some people tend to run on the "depressed side and some on the manic side. even though both emotions can rear their heads at anytime. your friend is not nuts, she has a chemical imbalance in her brain which causes trouble hormonally. (some of the strongest influences in one's body.) medication will not be curative, but it will hold swinging emotions at bay. sticking to a routine is important for a bipolar. unrest and upsets will cause "triggers" for bipolars. with a routine and meds though, she will be as stable as she can be. on another side, bipolar persons are supposedly quite intelligent and creative. remind her of this. life is not over for her, it is just beginning. she just needs to manage this disorder and realize that if she can navigate this disorder the possibilities for her are endless. you are a kind friend to show such concern for her. stay that way. i wish you both happiness and luck. by the way i am bipolar and if i had a friend such as you i would feel like the battle was alot easier to cope with.

nicely. if he punches himself then there would desire to definitly be some thing there. I conflict with BiPolar. it quite is distinctive for each guy or woman like my uncle (who died 2 weeks in the past from powerful and run) he might get suicidal, delusional, and only undeniable frightening my cousin sounds lots like your brother. different than he gets delusions. like god despatched him to do stuff. now it has gotten to the component that if he would not take his meds-he is going immediately to reformatory. BiPolar is an rather intense subject. the faster you capture it-the extra desirable might he be open to seeing a psychiatrist only as quickly as. to be certain what he thinks. additionally he would desire to take anger managment instructions. drugs for anger issues- i understand temper stablizers help a great deal. and there are some distinctive excersises he can do if he can sense himself attending to a snapping component i might attempt and communicate him in to seeing a expert-despite if its only as quickly as so which you men could have an concept what you're doing upload: whoever reported BiPolar swings arent that rapid is incorrect. the swifter they're-the extra risky he would be. I easily have considered people who purely have a important swing some cases a 300 and sixty 5 days. yet I additionally understand many those that extra healthful a similar description as your brother

    >>> bipolar disorder, also know as manic depression, is a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in a person's mood, energy, and ability to function. Bipolar disorder causes intense, long-lasting mood swings in two extreme directions: mania & depression.

<<<< also you may want to ask your friend what med she is currently on , and get to know what some of the side effects could be, as some of them (meds) sometimes make the symptoms worse.>>>>

It is characterized by the experience of one or more manic episodes as well as periods of depression. I'm sure you already know what depression would entail, so mania is characterized by more energy increased productivity, hyperactivity, but also irritability and potentially psychosis. Cure is with treatment is possible, but relapse is about 90%.

no real cure, it is usually genetic. It can be controlled fairly well if they stay on their meds. This can be difficult. They usually die fairly young (sorry). The manic phase is like a natural high, they can do anything they set their mind to. The low is the pits of despair. They may become delusional and paranoid when manic, suicidal when depressed.
