truck wont start?
when i turn the key it clicks but wont turn over.plenty of power.any ideas besides going to a mechanic who'll charge me an arm and a leg??
I have it hooked up to a charger right now, and it's getting power, but it is still clicking when I try to turn it on.
i took out the old battery and hooked up a car battery and when i turn the key it clicks once and does nothing. i realise it was a car battery and not a truck battery. i also tried hitting the starter with a hammer and that didnt do anything...

take a hammer and hit the starter a few times and then try to start the truck. if that works replace your starter.

make sure all battery cable connections are clean and free of corrosion... if problem still exists the battery could have a bad cell.. replacing the battery is the only other alternative unless the cables are bad to begin with.......
DO NOT EVER TAKE A HAMMER AND HIT THE STARTER, this will only break the magnet inside causing u to have to replace it when u wouldnt have to before

make sure your battery terminals are squeekly clean and tight and all the wires on the starter are tight and clean and if it still doesn't start I would replace the starter but not before taking it off and taking it to a parts store and let them test it, usually a free test.

id definatly hit the starter with a hammer-your not gonna break any magnets unless you hit the damn thing with a jackhammer-sometimes they just get a dead spot and after ya hit it a few good times it will probably start-it might be good fer a few months too and it could do the same tommorow-try it out see what it does

It's most likely the battery, for now, get someone with jumper cables to get it started temporarily. Then u should get a new one, best on the market is prolly the yellow-top optima battery.

Dead battery? Turn your headlights on and see if they work. If not definitely a dead battery. Could be bad spark plugs too.I don't really know I just know what I have experienced.
