I need ideas for a Puppy Shower we are having for my daughter?

My daughter and her husband don't want children anytime soon. She is getting a puppy for her birthday. We decided instead of a birthday party to give her a Puppy Shower to welcome the newest member of her family. I need some fun Ideas. This is all in good fun.

Serve snacks in dog bowls -- like chips, dips, animal crackers, etc.

If this dog's lineage is what we call in the red, meaning there are many finished dogs behind it, than you will most likely be fine. The best way to determine whether a young dog will be over or under a standard is by looking at its sire and dam and grand sires and dams, although going back further may also help. Dogs can be over or under by a fraction of an inch when the wicket comes out and there is no way to know that with a 12 week old puppy. Keeping any dog with show potential is a risk as it could go over or under a standard or have any of many faults by the time it should be shown. Males must be between 21 and 23 and1/2 inches so there really isn't a whole lot of room there if a dog goes over or under standard. The largest expense in that breed I would think is maintaining the dog until it reaches full height. Training for the conformation ring can be done at the nearest kennel club's handling classes and they are not expensive. If you want your daughter involved bring her along. The real costs in showing become difficult when you start discussing entry fees, traveling, and handlers, or equipment for grooming for show etc. In sibes that isn't as bad as many other breeds though, as far as grooming supplies. There are breeds with more costs and breeds with less, like smooth coated breeds. Veterinarians are not trained in standards of breeds but instead medical sciences. They will not be able to tell you if a 12 week old is going to be 22 inches to the withers or 24 either. I don't know what to tell you. I think the biggest risk your taking is holding onto him and if he doesn't turn out selling him if that is what you might do if he isn't showable. If you want to train him for the conformation ring do it yourself at a handling class. Call your local Kennel clubs and see where they suggest, they must know of some in your area.

I think you should buy little doggy clothes, and give her those as presents, maybe puppy safety presents as well. You could make puppy cookies and use dog food as confetti. I don't know a lot of baby shower games but maybe you could replace puppy toys or collars in replace of some of the games. Go to pet-smart and just look around, the ideas should just come then!!!

What a cute idea! I would say just make it like a baby shower but with puppy items instead. People could get her items for the puppy for presents (bed, food bowl, pet insurance gift certificate, gift certificate for pet items etc.) If it's doable, everyone could bring their own dogs to join in the fun. You could have a special cake made for the dogs, and one for the people to. For games you could have people draw pictures of what the new pup looks like, your daughter can vote the best one and that one will win a prize of some kind. You could have a look alike contest, to see who looks the most like their own dog. Lots of cute ideas out there, have fun!

Just like babies...bring a can of puppy chow, puppy pads, puppy shampoo. Use the bottom half of a carry all to put items in. Use a snoopy or cartoon puppy as a theme. Other items for puppies....pooper scoopers, dishes, placemats, toys, self waterer.

As the grandma I would go with a gold plate name tag with address if LOST.

games to play...pin the tail on the puppy. Also, you can put different puppy items, toys, treats, collar, etc. into a brown paper bag and each person at the shower gets a chance (time limit) to touch as many items in the bag as possible (without looking) and then when everyone is done..each person writes down as many of the items they were able to identify with their hands, and whoevers writes down the most correct answers, wins a prize.
