I have Hypothyroidism. I have to take a pill daily for this, Synthroid is the name. I have had this since i was 18. It can be life threatening if you do not take your meds. Your thyroid gland helps to regulate every organ in your body. So if you dont take the meds to keep it regulated then you are going to throw your whole body off kelter. But tell her not to worry about it, as long as she is taking her meds and getting regular TSH testing done, im sure she will be fine. I've dealt with this for 10 years. My doctor told me that it does run in the family so you may want to have yourself checked for this as well. Good Luck! I hope this helps your mother in some way.

If her thyroid is normal now don't worry about it. My mom has the same thing. She used to have terrible mood swings and lash out at me until she went to the doc and found out what it was. He gave her some pills and now she's doing fine. Hypothyroidism is when the thyroid slows or quits working and can no longer produce certain chemicals for the body that help to regulate mood, weight, cycle, etc. so it's emotionally draining if it's not treated properly. Tell your mom not to worry; a lot of women get it and manage just fine with it. By the way her doctor told her it wasn't hereditary. Hope this helps.

She might need to be checked out for a while just to make sure she's still ok. Till then I would have her take an anxiety pill so she isn't so nervous.
