My dad gave us his tank we already tested it for water leaks, and are rebuilding the stand but on peice of the tank trim (bottom buffer) is missing along the whole back. And now it i'm afraid it'll be unstable. It's a 125 or 150 g (i have to do the math) but i don't want to use it til it's fix and suggestions where i can find it and what would the proper name be for the peice i need?

The only thing I can think of is to contact the manufacturer, or a manufacturer, if there is no ID sticker on the tank.

    I found this site.

    http://saltaquarium.about.com/od/manufacturershome...

They seem to have lots of sites to find what you want. I typed aquarium manufactures into Yahoo Search. Try that.

You might have to redo the whole thing to make sure it matches, both color/style and sizes.

You are correct in not using it when it's potentially off balance.

    Good Luck.

First you have to look at the bottom or back of the tank under the silicone that holds the glass for a mfg tag. You have to know which comp. made it to replace it. Some tags will not have a name but a logo or symbol, write this all down. You have to measure the tank & all dimensions must be written down too. Then go to a independent pet shop, not a chain store like Petco. The independent pet shop can order the plastic frame from their wholesaler. It may take a week or two but it's worth it to get the exact part you need. When you get it pick up a small tube of fish tank silicone. Clean the area the new part will be touching with paper towel and apply the silicone to the inside of the frame. Put it on and let it dry 48 hours before you fill the tank. Never use any cleaning products on fish tanks. You clean them with Kosher Salt and a new unused Scotch Brite pad. Any and all cleaning fluids may be held in the silicone and released in the water killing the fish. Salt is natural in water and Kosher salt has no iodine to poison the fish. Good Luck!

Are you talking about the Silicon strips in the corners? If so - you can fix those very easily before you fill 'er up for cycling.

Go to your LFS - let them know what the problem is - and if they are a good LFS they will even show you how to do it, and what to buy.
